For about 50 years the LED technology of visual information transfer is world-known, in spite of it, there is a row of
unsolved questions of implementation of LED railway signals till present. This article is devoted to the analysis of
topical issues on introduction of LED signals on railway transport, in particular: modes of operations of railway signals,
influence of the atmospheric phenomena on the transmission of signal, unconcern of new technology as compared to
glow lamps etc. There have been separately analysed the possible failures of LED matrix elements and the choice of the
most rational structure of matrix has been grounded from the point of view of the railway signal functioning safety.
